POWER BREAKING: EXPERIENCE THE POWER!
What is Power Breaking?
Power breaking is the practice of striking and breaking solid objects, typically wooden boards, using techniques from World Taekwondo. This activity allows students to experience the real-world application of their skills while building both physical and mental strength. It is a vital component of World Taekwondo training for green belts and higher, as it teaches students to understand the power of their techniques.
By hitting solid objects, students grasp the potential force of their strikes and how those strikes can impact an opponent. Successfully breaking a board requires both physical strength and mental focus, conditioning the body and mind to overcome resistance.
Participation in Power Breaking
Power breaking classes are listed in the World Taekwondo Calendar, available on our website. During these classes, students learn how to execute techniques correctly for optimal results.
Additionally, students can arrange power breaking practice sessions at their local training centre with their instructor.
Tips for Making the Most of Power Breaking
- Start with Light Boards: Begin with lighter boards to build confidence and minimize the risk of injury.
- Gradually Increase Board Thickness: As your skills and confidence grow, challenge yourself with thicker boards.
- Listen to Your Instructor's Feedback: Instructors can provide valuable insights to enhance your technique and power.
While power breaking is an exciting aspect of World Taekwondo, it can be dangerous if not performed correctly. Breaking boards without proper supervision and technique can lead to injuries. Therefore, it is essential to practice power breaking only under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
