How World Taekwondo Transformed My Life After 50!

My World Taekwondo Journey in mid-life.

Introduction

My name is Joe Parisi, and I started my training at World Taekwondo Salisbury Branch at the age of 57 years. Although I have been fascinated with martial arts for most of my life, I had always been too busy with family and work commitments to actually participate in any training.

The Beginning of My Training

I first attended the Salisbury Training Centre to accompany my son, who has an intellectual disability, as he was very keen to start training. This rekindled my interest in martial arts, and I decided to start training in May 2012.

Fitness and Focus

At the time, I weighed approximately 99 kilograms. One of my main reasons for training was to lose weight and get fitter. The training not only helped me lose a total of 15 kilograms, but it also helped me stay focused amidst the challenges of a hectic work life. Personally, I feel fitter now than ever before, more energized, and capable of accomplishing physical tasks at work and home.

As my fitness level has improved, I can now participate in social activities with my young family members without tiring quickly. I have also gained confidence in approaching challenging tasks at work, especially those dealing with difficult customers.

Social Interaction and Growth

Socially, I have found it easier to communicate and interact with others, becoming less self-conscious. I’ve developed more respect and patience for the needs of others. The best part of the training is the interaction with others. We all share a common goal, making it easy to relate to each other during sessions, whether in regular training, advanced classes, or power breaking.

Personal Enjoyment and Achievement

It’s hard to decide which part of the training I enjoy most. I really enjoy fine-tuning each of the patterns, as it gives me the opportunity to improve personally by growing in self-control and confidence, knowing I can achieve good results with effort.

The Significance of Black Belt

The Black Belt represents personal growth, both mentally and physically. It is the reward for my dedication and persistence in a sport that relies solely on my own capabilities.

Conclusion

My journey in Taekwondo has been transformative, enhancing my fitness, confidence, and social interactions. I look forward to continuing this path of personal growth.

Sparring and Smiles: My World Taekwondo Story!

My World Taekwondo Story!

Introduction

I started World Taekwondo training when I was just 4 years old, and I’m still enjoying it 8 years later. My older brother began training first with a group of friends, and I thought it looked like so much fun! I really enjoy learning how to kick, punch, and perform the patterns.

The Dream of Achieving Black Belt

Ever since I started, I have always wanted to be a Black Belt. This goal motivates me to train hard and improve my skills.

Building Confidence and Friendship

Through World Taekwondo training, I have made lots of new friends. It has significantly helped me become more confident in talking to people and teachers at school. Additionally, I’ve gained fitness and valuable skills that benefit me in many areas of my life.

Favourite Aspects of Training

Sparring

My favorite part of training is sparring. It prepares you for real-life situations where you need to engage all your techniques. Sparring teaches me to think quickly, apply my skills fast, and execute with precision.

Learning New Kicks and Grabs

I also really enjoy learning new kicks. Each new technique makes me feel like I’ve achieved something special. Learning "grabs" give me confidence knowing that if someone grabs me, I will know how to respond.

Breaking Boards

Breaking boards is another thrilling aspect of my training. It brings a mix of excitement and fear, and it requires determination to succeed. Each time I break a board, I feel a sense of accomplishment.

The Importance of Black Belt

The Black Belt holds great significance for me. Since I started World Taekwondo, achieving this rank has been my ultimate goal. It represents dedication, hard work, and the culmination of my training journey.

Conclusion

World Taekwondo has empowered me in many ways, from building confidence to developing skills that I can carry into real life. I’m excited to continue my journey and work towards my Black Belt!
